How Heavys Increased Its Annual Run Rate by $184,000 With Onward's Order Editing
A premium DTC audio brand turned on self-service order editing at the start of September. In its first week, customers were fixing their own orders and adding to them at a pace that annualizes to $184,000 in new upsell revenue.

A High-AOV Hardware Brand Where Every Order Is a Considered Purchase
Heavys builds headphones engineered for one thing: heavy metal. Eight speakers per pair, tuned for the frequencies metal lives in, sold to listeners who research the purchase before they make it. The brand grew out of a Kickstarter campaign and now sells direct on Shopify, shipping physical hardware at a high AOV.
That profile is exactly the kind that generates post-purchase friction. When someone spends serious money on a single piece of considered electronics, the window between "order placed" and "order shipped" fills with second thoughts and corrections. They want the order sent to a different address. They realize they should have added a second pair as a gift. They want to swap a color or tack on an accessory. Every one of those moments used to be an email to support and a manual edit on the back end. Handled well, each one is also a chance to sell more.
The Challenge
The Money and the Tickets Both Live in the Pre-Fulfillment Window
For a hardware brand, the pre-fulfillment window is where two things leak.
The first is revenue. A customer who wants to add a second pair or upgrade their order has buying intent in that moment, but if the only path is "email us and we'll see what we can do," most of that intent dies in the queue.
The second is support cost. Address changes, item swaps, and "can you hold my order" requests are low-value, high-volume tickets that pull a small CX team off the work that requires a human.
Both problems have the same root: the customer has no way to touch their own order. Everything routes through support, which makes the fast requests slow and the revenue-generating requests invisible. For a brand shipping high-AOV electronics, that is a structural cost, and no amount of support staffing removes it.
The Solution
Self-Service Order Editing That Sells While It Serves
Heavys turned on Onward's order editing at the start of September. The mechanism is simple and it does two jobs at once. When a customer wants to change an order before it ships, they do it themselves: fix the shipping address, swap an item, or add to the order without opening a ticket. At the point where they are already in their order making a change, the flow surfaces relevant additions they can buy right there, at a moment of unusually high intent.
For Heavys, the most common addition is a second pair of headphones offered at a reduced rate. The same edit that corrects an address ends with another pair in the order. The correction deflects a ticket. The add-on books revenue. Neither one needed a person, and the customer got exactly what they wanted without waiting on an email thread.
That combination fits how the brand operates: a considered hardware purchase, a customer who is engaged enough to manage their own order, and an AOV high enough that a single upgrade is worth a meaningful amount. Order editing runs inside the Onward stack at zero SaaS fees; the value it creates funds it. Every dollar it drives is upside from the first day.
The Results
On Pace to Add $184,000 a Year
In its first week live, order editing logged 128 self-service edits across the roughly 2,750 orders Heavys placed since the start of September. That is about 1 in 20 orders, or 5%, where the customer changed or fixed something themselves instead of opening a support ticket.
Those edits included 54 upsells, most of them a second pair of headphones added at a reduced rate while the customer was already in their order. Together they booked roughly $4,000 in upsell revenue in the first week, about $500 a day. At that pace, order editing is on track to add roughly $15,000 a month to Heavys' revenue, an annual run rate of about $184,000.
On the support side, at an assumed $5 in handling cost per edit, 128 self-service edits are work the CX team never had to touch. At the current pace that lands around $2,500 a month, or more than $30,000 a year, in support costs Heavys does not have to staff for.
This is a first-week read, and the opening stretch included the Labor Day holiday and an active sale that lifted volume. The numbers are early, but the edits, the upsells, and the revenue are already in the account, and the run rate is simply what that pace projects to if it holds.
Takeaways for Premium DTC Brands
The Heavys result is early, but the shape of it is the point. Three things carry over to any brand shipping considered, high-AOV products.
The pre-fulfillment window is a revenue channel, not just a support cost. Most brands treat order changes as tickets to minimize. The customer editing their order is one of the highest-intent moments in the entire journey, and a self-service flow that lets them add to the order captures revenue that an email queue would have lost. For Heavys that is an annual run rate of about $184,000.
Self-service pays twice. About 1 in 20 Heavys customers now resolves their own order issue without contacting support. Every one of those edits is a ticket the CX team never opens, adding up to an estimated $30,000 a year in support costs avoided, and more than four in ten also end in an upsell. Deflection and revenue coming from the same flow is the rare tool that improves the P&L on both sides at once.
Protecting the first order protects the lifetime. For a considered hardware purchase, the post-purchase experience is where repeat interest and referrals are won or lost. Letting a customer fix their own order without friction keeps the first order clean, which is where customer lifetime value for an audio brand starts. Order editing is where that shows up first, and the value compounds from there.
